Who is Trisha?

As you may already know, Charlene and I are sisters. Irish twins if you want to get more specific, born 11 months apart. Wanna know something even more crazy? Charlene was born at 12:31am and I was born at 12:31pm. I know, right?!? We’ve always joked that we share the same brain due to the fact that we are always thinking about the same thing. So I wasn’t surprised when we both mentioned starting a blog. And here we are!

We both grew up in West Michigan, until Charlene graduated high school, married her high school sweetheart, and moved away. {Que ugly cry!} We have two younger brothers, who also live in Michigan with their families. I still currently live in West Michigan which is only about a 2 hour drive to Charlene. Just far enough to load up a van full of kids who are dying to see their cousins, and still arrive with happy children.

My family… my world.

My loves.

I am married to my husband, Stephen, for 13 years. Growing up, all I ever wanted to be was a stay at home mom. Thanks to my husband’s hard work, I’ve been able to do that for the past 10 years. After a journey down the road of infertility, we have been blessed with 3 beautiful children, LR, EG, and EE.

Children are born with all the curiosity they will ever need.

Who doesn’t love a good nature walk?

I have been homeschooling my older two for 3 years. I started after my oldest, LR, was having a difficult transition to school, day after day, year after year. We love having the availability to learn about topics that my children are interested in, being able to let them learn at their own pace, and giving them opportunities they wouldn’t have if they were in school all day.

A little about me…..

Recent trip to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee

I love traveling, vintage Airstreams, paying it forward, volunteering, growing our own food, cooking, sewing, sunrises, antique Chris Craft boats, and rearranging my furniture, which I do often, AND it drives my husband crazy! I also really love anything old; old houses, old books, old cars, old photos, etc. Basically anything with a history or story. If there is a nearby antique store, thrift store, or estate sale, I’m there! I’m a sucker for old children’s books, especially the books with beautiful drawings of nature or animals.

Why the love of old things?

Voigt House

Growing up I remember being dragged- or at least that’s how it felt at the time- to every antique store and flea market within driving distance. We grew up in a historical district filled with amazing homes, and I always remember having a love for architecture. On Saturday mornings, when other kids were watching cartoons, I was glued to the local PBS channel watching This Old House.

I like all different styles of homes: Victorian, Colonial, Saltbox, Foursquare, Tudor, mid-Century Modern/Modest, Italianate, etc. I love that feeling when you look at a house and think, “Oh, the stories it could tell!” They are the type of houses that took a year(s) to build and people put their heart and soul into their craft while working on them. Especially the woodwork: hardwood floors, 12” baseboards, huge pocket doors, coffered ceilings, and amazing staircases. Oh, the staircases!! *Drool* They just don’t make houses like they used to.

Now I know what you’re thinking, with all the things that I love, is there anything I don’t like?

Food waste at a local grocery store

Yes, yes there is! I don’t like food waste, litter, gray paint (I know! I might be the only one), the sound cheap pencils make while writing, painted antique furniture, the lack of common sense these days, and DIY “big box” house flips. Being married to someone in Real Estate, this is something I see every day when I click on “New Listings.” Why do people buy amazing houses, rip out all the character, just so it looks like every other house?!? I literally want to cry when I see the before and after pictures.

PERHAPS this is…. your moment!

I am a “fly by the seat of my pants” type of person, who just so happened to marry the OCD/high anxiety love of my life. He puts up with all my craziness, and more importantly, all of my books. So here is a glimpse into everything I love, and even some stuff that don’t love! I hope that whatever you connect with here, it inspires you to leave the world a little bit better than when you found it.
