Do you have a Lego lover in your family? If so, you need to visit LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Auburn Hills, MI! They are located inside the Great Lakes Crossing Mall. After our visit I can now say, I know what it’s like inside the mind of a child who LOVES Legos. Their whole world is made with Lego bricks and the minifigures are as tall as they are!
A special thank you to LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Auburn Hills, MI, for recently hosting our family during their Homeschool Week.
What’s Inside?
Legoland is the perfect family adventure. There are two rides, plenty of spots to build your own Lego creation, a 4D movie, and tons more! It was designed for children ages 3-10, so everything is just the right size. Below are some of my kids’ favorite areas during our visit.
Welcome to LEGOLAND!
Kingdom Quest Laser Ride
Upon entering, you watch a brief video explaining your Lego mission during your visit. When that is complete, you can take a seat on the Kingdom Quest Laser Ride. Your goal is to save the captured princess by using your laser gun to defeat the evil trolls and skeletons.
MINILAND
After the princess is safe, and your Kingdom Quest mission is complete, brush yourself off and take a stroll through MINILAND!
MINILAND is filled with interactive models of Detroit-area landmarks. It is crazy to think that they used over 1.5 MILLION Legos to construct it!
There are boats floating in the Detroit River, as the towering buildings above them seem to touch the sky. MINILAND changes from day to night, complete with “rain showers” and a fireworks display.
Keep your eyes out for all of the Minifigures. They are all over! Which ones are your
Merlin’s Apprentice
At the Merlin’s Apprentice Ride, you get to pedal an enchanted cart in the magical potion chamber, all while trying to become the next wizard apprentice. The faster you pedal, the faster you will stir up the sorcerer’s spell, and soar higher into the sky.
LEGO Friends
Welcome to Heartlake City! The LEGO Friends area is filled with your
You can visit all of their
LEGO Duplo Farm
The LEGO Duplo Farm is complete with a playhouse, slide, and tons of Duplos. This is a great area for kids, ages 2-5. They are sure to leave as happy as a pig in mud.
My son’s
and they are amazing!
So, if someone is reading this that works at LEGO, could you PLEASE sell these!!! You can put me down for a couple orders.
LEGO Racers: Build and Test
We headed over to the LEGO Racers: Build and Test area. Everybody got to build their own race car, then send them down a racetrack to see which one was the fastest.
Underwater Quest
Underwater Quest is a new section that is all ocean related. The displays were absolutely beautiful! Who’s up for a photo-op with Shark Man?!?
There was a building area where you could build a seahorse or Dory from Finding Nemo. It had step-by-step directions on a touch-screen in front of you that you could flip through at your own pace.
Please visit our YouTube channel and subscribe so you don’t miss an adventure!
Restrooms
Oh, yes! I’m going there. I am sharing this with you because as someone who travels with children, it’s nice to have a heads-up on the restroom situation. Restrooms are something that can make or break a visit. I just had to share LEGOLAND’s restroom because look how cute they are!!!! And they
My younger two loved the child height sink and so did I! It can be so hard to lift a child up with one hand AND try to help them wash their hands with the other hand. Not here! Walk right up and do your thing!
Even Minifigures have to go sometime!
Homeschool Week
As you may or may not know, we homeschool, and the week we visited just so happened to be Homeschool Week. During this dedicated week they offer discounted admission for homeschoolers and their families. Admission was only $10 per person, which saved us $13.50 per adult and $8.50 per child. That’s a great discount if you ask me!
Upon entering, the kids were handed a worksheet. One side is for younger kids and the other side is for older kids. They had to search for the answers as they walked throughout LEGOLAND. The questions covered topics such as the lightbulb, the invention of the pencil, and the founder of LEGO Company. They were great opportunities that allowed the kids to dive deeper into learning more about inventions and how they came to be.
During Homeschool week they offer different stations that use LEGO to teach STEM concepts and LEGO Education workshops throughout the day.

My granddaughter Liv’s favorite is that it allows her to be creative and gives her something during the 2 1/2 hour ride from Grand Rapids to my house in West Bloomfield.
Charlene
We love that Diane! I’m sure that makes her car ride go much faster, great idea. Good luck!

Both of my little ones love creating with Legos. The older one loves to follow directions carefully, the younger one just wants to build.

Marcia, it is wonderful that with Legos each kid is free to build as they like. My son also likes to build his own ideas. I find we are running low on space to display everything though! Good luck!
Christine Blair

Legos are the power of imagination, you can build anything you want to. Kinda like the message we send to our children, that you can be anything you want when you grow up. Great thinking tools!

Charlene
Yes, always something new and exciting with Lego building. Good luck, April!
Mike S.
My son loves making GIANT towers out of Legos and then smashing them like he’s Godzilla or something. Its pretty cute, but then again, there’s all that cleanup…
Charlene
Too fun Mike!! And yes, that clean-up… it never fails, always one Lego missed that gets stepped on, barefoot at night. Good luck!
keri szawara
All three of my kids LOVE playing and building with Legos. I love how Legos can spark a great idea and a wonderful imagination.
Charlene
So happy to hear this Keri! Legos are a great way to spark imagination for sure. Good luck with our giveaway!
Holly
This looks like a great family day for us. Parker (2years old) doesn’t have any LEGO’s yet. He loves playing with the Duplo table and the assortment at the library. He still plays with Mega Blocks at home. He typically askes me to build something, just to destroy my masterpieces.
Charlene
Oh no, Holly… your poor masterpieces! Parker sure sounds like he enjoys creating things and the Duplos are great! My son has loved Legos since he was three years old. I even stumbled through helping him build one in the hospital the morning after his sister was born. I can tell you Legos instructions are even more confusing when you’ve had no sleep and just had a baby. lol Happy building!
Somer
Thanks for sharing your experience and offering a giveaway!
Charlene
Aw, sure thing! We love to share good finds.
